Families agree to bury Levies personnel after 11 days of sit-in protests in Ziarat

Demonstrators protesting against killing of Levies personnel in Ziarat, on Sunday agreed to bury the dead, according to Balochistan's government spokesperson.

Liaquat Shahwani took to Twitter to say the government held negotiations with the sit-in participants and the dead would be buried in their native areas on Monday (today).

According to our source in Ziarat, privy with developments regarding this issue, the protestors have agreed to bury the dead but will continue their sit-in. They said a jirga will meet in two days to decide further plan of action.

In related news, a social media user tweeted the news of death of a protesting member, Haji Muhammad Azeem, who was at the sit-in when he had a heart attack. He said Azeem was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

This protest has received little media coverage but according to a report in the Quetta voice, a strike was observed on Sunday in solidarity with the protesting members and killing of the personnel.

The sit-in participants had demanded an investigation into the incident of the killing of the Levies personnel and said they wouldn’t bury the bodies till the formation of a judicial commission.

The personnel were killed when their vehicle crossed a landmine in Ziarat. Later the Balochistan Liberation Army claimed the responsibility of the incident.
