The Taliban has denied killing a pregnant police officer in front of her family in the Ghor province of Afghanistan and said it is investigating the incident.

The report claims Banu Negar was beaten and shot dead in front of her husband and children. BBC also said that details of the incident "are still sketchy" because people are frightened to speak out for fear of retribution but they spoke to three people in Firozkoh, where the incident took place, who witnessed it.

Negar's family said she worked as a prison guard and was eight months pregnant.

The Taliban's pokesman Zabiullah Mujaheed was quoted in the BBC as saying they were of the incident and "I am confirming that the Taliban have not killed her, our investigation is ongoing."

He said Negar's murder may be down to "personal enmity or something else".

Soon after the news, social media was rife with information and images of the gruesome crime.

Journalist Aditya Raj Kaul shared a video on Sunday reportedly of Negar's son describing how the Taliban brutally killed his mother.

People also took to social media to question how the Taliban had changed and express concern for women's safety under their regime.

Afghan women have been taking to the streets since the Taliban takeover to protest and demand their rights are not taken away by the Taliban.

Negar's murder has only raised concerns even more.
