Ashraf Ghani's children live luxurious life in US
While Afghanistan continue to plunge once again into a conflict deeper and deeper, former president Ashraf Ghani's children, Mariam and Tariq, live a luxurious life in the United states.
Mariam Ghani, daughter of former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani who reportedly fled (with 169 million), lives in her Brooklyn loft in New York, where the contrast to harsh Taliban rule over women and girls couldn’t be more stark, reads an article published in NewYork Post.
Tariq, Ashraf Ghani's son, is a professor of economics at Washington University in St. Louis lives in the “immaculate” townhouse located just one mile from the Capitol with his wife, Elizabeth Pearson, who is the legislative director for Elizabeth Warren.
According to The Mail the couple had bought their three-bedroom, three-bathroom home for $959,000 in 2018 and it has rocketed in value since the Covid pandemic.
The area's average real estate prices are in the country's top seven percent, the newspaer added.
Tariq and Mariam were born in the United States and grew up in Maryland with their father Ashraf Ghani and Lebanese-born mother.
Days ago the UAE's foreign ministry had also confirmed that the country had welcomed former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani and his family on humanitarian grounds.
In a video address, Mr Ghani denied fleeing and said he had left to prevent what he described as a "huge disaster".
"For now, I am in the Emirates so that bloodshed and chaos is stopped," he said. "I am currently in talks to return to Afghanistan."
Mr Ghani also said rumours that he had travelled to the UAE with a large amount of money were "completely baseless" and "lies".
