Bringing peace in Afghanistan a shared responsibility of the int'l community: FM
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday said Pakistan considered all segments of Afghanistan important in shaping the final destiny of their country.
Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday stated this as he received the Afghan leaders' delegation at Foreign Ministry in Islamabad and discussed the latest situation in Afghanistan.
Qureshi said: “It is necessary that we should work together for the betterment of Afghanistan and the region. Our ultimate goal is peaceful, united, democratic, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan. I have strong hope that together we can forward peace and reconciliation.”
FM Qureshi said that the world community was clearly a supporter of peace in Afghanistan and it was necessary for the Afghan leadership to take advantage of this historic opportunity by paving the way for Afghanistan's comprehensive political solution.
“We have to keep a strong eye on the anti-peace elements that are trying to mislead Pakistan's globally,” he said. He hoped that all Afghan leaders will bring efforts together in the broader national interest while Pakistan is committed to playing its constructive for peace in Afghanistan.
Commenting on the latest developments in Afghanistan, Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafiz Chaudhari said, “We continue to closely follow the developments in the rapidly evolving situation in Afghanistan”.
“We believe it is imperative that the Afghan leaders work together to address the evolving situation and craft a way forward for sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan,” the spokesperson said.
Pakistan has consistently emphasized that a political solution is indispensable. Pakistan will continue to play its constructive role in promoting this goal.
“In our view, achieving lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and bringing an end to the four-decades long conflict is a shared responsibility of the international community. We hope that our collective efforts will help bring lasting peace, progress, and prosperity to Afghanistan,” the Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
