Justice Afghan releases accused sentenced for life
1 min readJustice Naeem Akhter Afghan reopened a case of an innocent man imprisoned in Khuzdar jail and found him innocent of the charges against him according to a report on Aaj TV on Wednesday.
According to the judge, once he went for a Jail inspection in Khuzdar where a man asked if he could look into his case as he claimed he had been sentenced to life for crime that he had not committed.
“I went to Quetta and asked the Chief Justice if he can allow me to reopen this case,” Justice Naeem Akhter said.
He said that he took the case file and found that the details pointed to the the man being innocent.
Justice Naeem Akhter said he called the lawyer of the accused as he was not following the case properly and also remained absent during the proceedings, according to the TV report.
“The lawyer said to me that he is not paying my fees," Justice Afghan said.
He said that there was nothing in the case so “I released the accused in 5 minutes.”
Many in the legal community have lauded this move and called for reforms in country’s judicial system.
