Cloudburst in Islamabad causes flooding; two dead
A cloudburst induced flooding in the capital which has killed at least two people, according to Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat.
The DC tweeted this information earlier in the day and kept social media users updated throughout the day sharing photos of the city administration trying to clear the city.
Two people died, including a child, when water entered their home in E11 in the capital at around 6 am. Rescue workers were able to save three children from drowning but not the mother and child who died.
The flooding in Islamabad served as a reminder of poor urban planning as well as the threat of climate change.
People took to social media to share images of the flooding as the military and CDA went about rescue operations in the twin cities.
The military was called in to assist with damage caused by “heavy rains caused high water level in Nullah Lai and water accumulation in E 11" according a release by the ISPR.
