Pakistan wants stability in Afghanistan, says Fawad Chaudhry

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday has said that Pakistan wants stability in Afghanistan. Peace in Afghanistan is important for Pakistan and Prime Minister Imran Khan has clarified Pakistan's position on the stability of Afghanistan, he added.

He was talking to the media about the premier's recent interview with The New York Times. Chaudhry said, "Pakistan urges the Afghan Taliban to hold talks with US and Afghan government."

Addressing the escalating situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan's reaction, Fawad said that the PM has made it clear we may consider sealing the border if the situation in Afghanistan deteriorates.

He added that Pakistan has fenced off 90% of the Pak-Afghan border, therefore, we are in a position to seal the border with Afghanistan completely.

The federal minister said that the solution to the Afghanistan problem must involve all stakeholders and according to the wishes of Afghanis. A stable government should be in place in Afghanistan, he said.

Fawad also touched on the subject of Pakistan entering a new era of relations with the US. He said the premier envision a relationship with the US where the emphasis is on economic, rather than security ties.
