4 including PTI candidate feared dead, as vehicle plunges in River Jhelum
Member Azad Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly and candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for the AJK general elections, Sardar Muhammad Saghir Chughtai was feared dead as his vehicle plunged into Jhelum river near Azad Patan in Kahuta sub-division of Rawalpindi, Friday morning.
The ill-fated Kashmiri parliamentarian was on his way to Rawalakot from Rawalpindi when his car met with an accident at about 7 in the morning, authorities told APP Friday. Both vehicles fell into the river and could not be traced due to the fast current of the deep river till the last reports came in.
The mishap is feared to have killed at least four of the persons travelling in the two vehicles including Saghir Chughtai's driver, according to authorities.
Rescue teams were hectically engaged for the recovery of the bodies from the river.
Chughtai was recently nominated as Candidate of the PTI from AJK’s Electoral Constituency LA-22 Rawalakot, Poonch Division, for AJK Legislative Assembly Elections scheduled to be held on July 25 this year.
Chughtai had, in the recent past, parted ways from the All Jammu & Kashmir Muslim Conference, and joined the PTI AJK to contest the scheduled elections.
