Pakistan on Sunday has reported 6,127 new cases and 148 COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours as the country struggles with the third wave of coronavirus.

According to statistics shared by National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), the country's nerve center for unified efforts against coronavirus, 71,836 coronavirus tests were taken, 6,127 came out positive, and 148 deaths were reported countrywide in the last 24 hours.

There are currently 4,446 critical patients of COVID-19 admitted at different hospitals in the country. And the reported positivity rate is 8.25%.

With these latest statistics, the country's total number of confirmed active cases stands at 80,559. Pakistan has so far recorded 756,285 confirmed cases, 16,243 deaths, and a total of 659,483 recoveries from the novel disease.

Most active cases are reported in Punjab (43,905) followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (13,218), and Islamabad (12,521). There are currently 7,524, 2,316, 970, and 105 active cases in Sindh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan, and Gilgit Baltistan respectively.

KP government to further stricken implementation of SOPs:

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Saturday had decided to further stricken the implementation of SOPs in view of the exponential increase in COVID cases across the province.

The decision was taken in the meeting of the Provincial Task Force on Covid-19 chaired by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in Peshawar.

The government decides to start vaccination of people above 50 from 21 April:

The government on Saturday announced that it has decided to start vaccination of people in the age group of 50 to 59 from Wednesday.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the NCOC chaired by the Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar in Islamabad today.
