28 people succumbed to COVID-19 yesterday: NCOC

In the last 24 hours 1,286 new coronavirus cases and 28 virus-related deaths were reported in Pakistan.

According to the latest statistics provided by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), the total cases in the country has reached 553,128. Further details are as follows:

Total Cases: 553,128    
New Cases (Last 24 hours): 1,286

Total Deaths: 11,914    
New Deaths (Last 24 hours): 28  

Total Recovered: 508,700    
Active Cases: 32,514
Critical Cases: 1,908  

Among the provinces, Sindh leads the country both in the number of cases reported (250,043) and the number of active cases present currently (19,225).
While Punjab has reported the most number of Covid deaths among all the provinces (4,854).

In related news, the Covid-19 vaccination campaign was launched yesterday by the government across Pakistan. Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on health Dr. Faisal Sultan told media regarding the immunization campaign in the country. He said:

In the first phase, about 500,000 frontline healthcare workers will be vaccinated. In the second phase, about 9 million people over the age of 60 will be vaccinated.

SAPM further added:

Similarly, in the third phase, all 500,000 health care workers and about 63 million people between the ages of 60 and 70 will be vaccinated. And then the rest of the population will be vaccinated.
