Six Army major generals promoted to rank of lieutenant general
RAWALPINDI: The Army on Wednesday announced top-level promotions by promoting six major generals to the rank of lieutenant general, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director-General.
In a tweet, the ISPR Director-General said those promoted included Major General Akhtar Nawaz, Major General Sardar Hassan, Major General Azhar Hayat, Major General Asif Ghafoor, Major General Salman Fayyaz Ghani, Major General Sarfraz Ali and Major General Muhammad Ali.
The high-level promotions came a day after Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa presided over the 237th Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters (GHQ).
Though there was no mention of the promotions in the Army is the ISPR statement released after the Commanders conference, the Forum reviewed the geostrategic, regional and national security environment and discussed internal security, the situation along the borders, Line of Control (LOC) and atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K). The Forum also took a comprehensive overview of the positive progress in the Afghan peace process.
The Forum showed serious concern in the wake of irrefutable evidence of Indian state-sponsored terrorism and efforts to destabilize Pakistan.
The Indian efforts to sabotage CPEC, involvement in financing and training of terrorist organizations for fomenting unrest in Pakistan, especially in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and Balochistan are an affront to peace and security in the region, the Forum emphasised.
Deliberating upon the recent surge in Ceasefire Violations (CFVs) by the Indian army, the Forum resolved to take all measures necessary to protect innocent population living along LOC from the Indian firing deliberately targeting the civil population. The Forum expressed strong will, resolve and determination to defend the motherland against any misadventure.
The Forum also deliberated upon the COVID-19 situation and measures required to confront the pandemic in the wake of second wave. The COAS specifically directed all commanders to ensure measures to support the national effort. Pakistan Army with the support of state institutions and the nation is fully prepared to thwart all internal and external challenges. It is our duty to transform these challenges into opportunities for the stability and prosperity of the people of Pakistan, the COAS concluded.
