The second wave of coronavirus has well and truly arrived in Pakistan. Let us not underestimate the danger it brings with it. Examples of European countries like Spain, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany are in front of us. These countries are in a state of disarray courtesy of the second surge of the virus in the region.
Pakistan has been reporting nearly a thousand new cases daily for the past few days, and the number is expected to rise in near future. Social gatherings and abandoning coronavirus SOPs due to pandemic fatigue has led to the recent spike in Covid cases in the country.
The government is concerned regarding the spike in Covid cases, Planning Minister Asad Umar who chaired the NCOC meeting today, took to Twitter and wrote:
NCOC discussed additional measures today to control the rising spread of Covid19. Recommendations will be tabled in the NCC being called for tomorrow. Need to take immediate measures which have the most impact on disease spread without curtailing economic activity.
