According to the latest statistics provided by the prestigious Johns Hopkins University, 83,757 new cases were reported in the United States in the last 24 hours. This is the single biggest 24-hour surge in new cases in the US.

The first-ever case of COVID-19 in the United States was confirmed 275 days ago on 22nd January. Since then, the country has reported a staggering 8,491,459 cases, and 223,975 deaths. The country leads the world in both total cases and fatalities reported.

President Donald Trump and his administration have been criticized globally for their failure in containing the viral disease in the country. The incumbent government has made a mess handling the pandemic. Unclear policies, lack of proper equipment, and most of all the politicization of the pandemic have cost American citizens dearly as novel coronavirus has run rampant in all 50 states.

With the Presidential election just around the corner, Trump seems indifferent regarding the rising number of infections in the country as he is holding mostly maskless rallies across the states. His critics have coined the term 'Super Spreader' for his rallies. Joe Biden, on the other hand, has been cautious as he is mostly holding car rallies across the country to avoid the dangerous public gatherings.

The U.S. is currently in its third COVID-19 peak and the troubles for the country are far from being over. The coming Halloween festival and the big election are expected to cause a spike in new cases. The Americans have to come together as a people and only then they can thwart this lethal virus.
