PESHAWAR: After the Peshawar High Court (PHC) ordered the NAB not to arrest Capt Safdar till Nov 4, the PML-N leader on Thursday said neither Imran Khan nor those who brought him into power liked the speech delivered by Nawaz Sharif.

The country wouldn’t have been divided and Bangladesh formed if the judges at that time were from his province, Capt Safdar remarked during media chat outside the high court building.

Earlier, the PHC accepted the bail plea submitted by Safdar in connection with an ongoing inquiry conducted by NAB over alleged financial irregularities.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Waqar Seth and Justice Nasir Mehfooz heard the matter as the anti-graft body was expected to arrest Safdar on Oct 18.

The PML-N leader told media persons that the NAB had not been able to tell for the last two-and-half years what assets did he have.

Imran Khan and those propelling him into the office had asked NAB to arrest him as the attempt to detain him was made after Nawaz Sharif’s speech at the APC organised by the opposition parties, Safdar maintained.

He said former dictator Pervez Musharraf had formed NAB to save his unconstitutional government for using the organisation against political rivals.

Safdar predicted that a commission would one day formed to investigate the NAB affairs because investment had been crippled in the country due to the anti-graft body.

“Corruption in (government) organisations have increased due to NAB,” he said, adding that what would happen if any video appeared as only an audiotape concerning the NAB chairman had so far surfaced.

Asking Lt-Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa to explain his assets, Safdar said he too would have to appear before the commission and resign from the slot CPEC Authority chairman.

“The person who sent the message about resignation to the then prime minister would answer. The person who rigged the 2018 election would also have to answer,” the PML-N leader remarked.

He said the respect the vote movement had already been a success, adding, “The people now do not want to live under the subjugation of any institution.”
