LAHORE: Investigation of case number 3033/20 registered against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership has been started by the special investigation team set up on orders of IG Punjab Inam Ghani.

The team declared all senior PML-N leadership innocent, except for former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, in a sedition case lodged with the Shahdara police recently and also removed four sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) from the FIR.

Investigating according to its TORs, the Special Investigation Team firstly recorded the statement of the plaintiff.

In view of the FIR and the statement of the plaintiff, the Special Investigation Team has expunged sections 121A, 123A, 124 and 153A for being inconsistent with the text of the FIR.

The Special Investigation Team, taking the plaintiff’s statement, two video statements and the FIR into account, decided not to take further action against those accused of supporting the two speeches due to lack of evidence.

However, the remaining investigation of the case will be done in accordance with the law, evidence and requirements of justice.

PML-N leaders named in the FIR were: Maryam Nawaz, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Pervez Rashid, Khawaja Asif, Rana Sanaullah, Khurram Dastgir, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Muhammad Zubair, Danial Aziz, Raja Farooq Haider, Amir Maqam, Irfan Siddiqui, Abdul Qadir Baloch, Miftah Ismail, Mian Javed Latif, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Senator Lt General (r) Abdul Qayyum, Saleem Zia Sindh, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Salahuddin Tirmizi, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, Begum Najma Hameed, Begum Zakia Shah Nawaz, Tariq Razzaq Chaudhry, Sardar Yaqub Nisar, Nawabzada Changez Marri, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Mehtab Abbasi, Attaullah Tarar, Chaudhry Burjis Tahir, Chaudhry Muhammad Jafar Iqbal, Azma Bukhari, Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Saira Afzal Tarar, Begum Ishrat Ashraf, Waheed Alam and Raheela Durrani.
