6 things you should know if you are recovering from COVID-19
The novel coronavirus is still claiming lives across the globe and hundreds of thousands of people are still being infected with the flu bug daily worldwide.
According to the Johns Hopkins University coronavirus stats, to date over 36 million people have been infected and more than 1 million have died due to the viral disease. Also, almost 27 million people have successfully defeated the virus and have fully recovered.
But still, over 8 million people have active infections currently present across the 188 countries and territories that have confirmed coronavirus cases. Only 1% of these active cases are in critical care, which means the remaining 99% of them are recovering in their homes as they have mild or no symptoms at all. If you're one of the individuals who have contracted the coronavirus infection, you should know these six important things:
You are not contagious 10-14 days after the onset of symptoms.
You do not need a repeat PCR test if you have tested positive once.
It's possible that you may continue to have mild symptoms (like loss of sense of smell or taste) for many weeks.
You are not likely to get reinfected anytime soon. Though it's a possibility research has shown that it is rare.
Even if you have fully recovered from COVID, then you should keep wearing a mask, wash hands, avoid crowds. Because the duration of immunity is unclear. So it's better to stay safe.
Lastly, know this that your antibody-rich plasma may be able to help those currently fighting COVID-19. Donate plasma as you can save lives.
