  • The number of confirmed novel coronavirus infections has reached 297,014 today. 424 people tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.

  • With 10 people dying in the last 24 hours, deaths due to COVID-19 in Pakistan has reached 6,328.

  • With 466 coronavirus patients recovering from the viral disease in the last 24 hours, the tally of fully recovered Pakistanis now stands at 281,925.

  • The total number of tests conducted in Pakistan during the pandemic is 2,684,252. 21,744 people were tested for the flu bug in the last 24 hours.

  • Currently, 8,761 active cases are present in the country and the number is decreasing gradually.

  • 585 COVID-19 patients are in critical condition.

  • Currently, Pakistan is the 16th most adversely affected country by the coronavirus in terms of the number of infections.

Pakistan has emerged as one of the success stories in the fight against the Coronavirus, with neighboring India being a complete contrast to it as it has been the epicenter of the viral disease for the past several weeks.

PTI Government credits its policies like smart lockdown for the containment of the disease in the country. While critics blame low testing capacity for the lower number of new cases. But the truth is that testing capacity has remained more or less the same since June, but the positivity rate has dipped significantly.

Pakistan's positivity rate (the ratio of tests done and tests returning positive) at the viral peak in the country in mid-June and onwards, remained between 20-25%. But for the past couple of months, it has dropped steadily. For the past couple of weeks, it has remained around 1-2%. This proves that Pakistanis have successfully dealt with the first wave of coronavirus. It should be noted that the health experts have warned about the possibility of a second wave of viral infection in the coming weeks, so it's still advised to wear masks and follow social distancing.
