This past week Pakistan reported the lowest cumulative number of coronavirus cases in a week after several weeks. The daily viral count remained consistently below the figure of 1,000 in the last seven days, the first such instance since April 30.

According to the official COVID-19 website of the federal government, 782 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection yesterday. While 17 people succumbed to the viral disease in the last 24 hours. A total of 20,461 people were tested for the virus, meaning the positivity rate was 3.82% which proves that the virus has been contained in Pakistan to a great extent.

At the COVID peak in the country, the positivity rate remained in the range of 18-22%. So the recent drop in the rate is quite encouraging. This welcoming development is the main reason why Prime Minister Imran Khan and his administration gave the green signal yesterday to the opening of businesses across the country.

Public health experts have warned the public that although the cases have dropped significantly it doesn't mean that we are done with the viral disease for good. The scare of the second wave is very much present as we have seen all over the world that several countries like England, Iran, China, etc. that had flattened the viral curve witnessed a resurgence of the virus. It's not something to panic for but we should be prepared to tackle the inevitable second wave whenever it comes. So don't let go of your sanitary habits and keep wearing masks in public.
