As of today, the 14th of July, Pakistan has crossed the tally of quarter million cases of Covid-19. But the good news is that the number of recovered patients is increasing day by day . Currently Pakistan has 161,917 recovered corona patients and 84,442 active viral cases. This means that coronavirus recoveries are almost twice the number of active cases in the country.

According to the stats provided by the official Covid-19 website of the Pakistan government, we have a death rate of 2.1% and a recovery rate of 64.3%. The government data tells us that we attained a peak on the 1st of July with over 108,000 active cases present at the time. Since then the curve is declining.

The World Health Organization has also appreciated the efforts of the government of Pakistan on taking active measures to prevent the pandemic situation from worsening. The strategy of implementing a 'smart lockdown' as PM dubbed, has proved fruitful as the number of new cases isn't rising uncontrollably. In the past few weeks, the government sealed several hotspots in multiple cities to contain the virus spread. Khan administration was forced to take such action as the conditions worsened over the festive event of Eid at the end of May as infection got spread rapidly. But after taking apt preventive measures it seems like good times are ahead.

The worrisome thing for us is that another festive event - Eid ul Adha- is around the corner. The Federal, as well as provincial governments, are more cautious this time. They're already taking active steps to curtail viral spread on Eid by issuing SOPs for cattle markets and by encouraging the public to follow them and avoiding public contact as much as possible. Authorities and public health experts believe that if we can avoid a coronavirus surge during Eid holidays, we will be able to flatten the curve soon.
