Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for COVID-19
Today, Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro announced live on television that he has tested positive for novel coronavirus.
From the very beginning, the Brazilian President has taken the pandemic situation quite casually and he has flouted social distancing rules on several occasions. He has been criticized harshly by his public and opposition parties as well as the observers all over the world. His critics have blamed his non-serious attitude for an alarming covid spike in the last couple of months in the country.
Brazil is severely affected by novel coronavirus. As of today, it has at least 1,643,539 reported covid-19 cases and 66,093 people have died due to the viral infection. It's the second most affected country behind only the United States.
Despite Brazil reporting thousands of cases, Bolsonaro, 65, continued to attend social events and political rallies, often wearing masks incorrectly, or not wearing them at all. He repeatedly trivialized the risks of COVID-19 and urged Brazilians to get back to work to prevent an economic crash.
Reports of Bolsonaro’s possible infection first emerged yesterday, when local media reported that the President had contracted the virus and was tested for the virus which came back positive. Reportedly, a couple of days ago he developed coronavirus symptoms, including a 38 degree Celcius temperature, fatigue, and a persistent cough.
Sources report that the President has isolated himself from his family members and government personnel. His fans and wellwishers have wished him a speedy recovery from all parts of the world.
