Amid concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to remember that a majority of those infected by the flu bug experience either mild symptoms and recover from the illness or show no symptoms at all.

As of today, there are 139,230 COVID-19 cases in the country and 2,632 people have succumbed to the disease. But the good news is that 51,735 people have recovered from the disease already.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) the viral disease can cause varying degrees of illness and even death. Especially, older people and immunocompromised individuals are at greater risk for severe illness from COVID-19. But for the majority of people who become infected, novel coronavirus brings only mild symptoms, such as dry cough and fever.

WHO says that most patients who experience mild symptoms typically recover from the illness in about two weeks, while those who experience more severe illness could take up to six weeks to recover. Some estimates tell us that 80% of the infected coronavirus individuals show either mild symptoms or remain asymptomatic.14% show severe disease and only 6% become critical.
