Govt fully prepared to combat outbreak of Coronavirus

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health, Dr. Zafar Mirza has said the government is fully prepared to combat the outbreak of Coronavirus and is taking all possible measures to protect the citizens.

Addressing a news conference along with Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui in Islamabad, he said Pakistan and China are continuously sharing information on the cases of Coronavirus and mutual collaboration will help in controlling the outbreak.

Dr. Zafar Mirza confirmed that four Pakistani students affected from coronavirus in China are being treated properly and recovering from the virus.

He said that emergency operation cell at the Federal Health Ministry is monitoring the situation round the clock.

He said scanners and information booths have been set up at all major airports as part of preventive measures. He said hospitals and their staff are also being trained if any emergency is faced.

Dr. Zafar Mirza said there is no any recommendation issued by the World Health Organization to its member countries to evacuate its citizens from China.

He said the WHO has appreciated the efforts of Chinese government in handling the novel Coronavirus disease. He said Pakistan is strictly following the WHO instructions.

Dr. Zafar Mirza said the government has established national emergency operation centre and activated national task force on international health regulations besides creating a national Coronavirus emergency core committee.

He asked media for avoiding irresponsible reporting based on assumptions and rumours.
