Rajput women marches against Padmaavat release
Web Desk: Rajput women in Chittorgarh protested against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie Padmaavat as it distorts history of Rajput queen Padmini and hurts the sentiments of the Rajput community.
At least 200 Rajput women in Rajasthan marched with swords in Chittogarh town to pressurize the government to ban the film or to give them permission to end their lives.
According to the Suresh Kumar Khatik, sub-divisional officer of Chittorgarh, “They gave us the memoranda seeking a countrywide ban on the film.â€
Rajasthan government also said that it would file a review petition on Monday in the Supreme Court against the top court’s order that stayed the decision of some states to ban the film’s screening.
Padmavaat is based on a poem written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi, in which Rajput queen of Chittor choosing to kill herself rather than be captured by Khilji.
The movie is scheduled to be released on January 25.
