Panamagate case: JI submits arguments in SC

ISLAMABAD: A five member larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has adjourned the hearing of Panama Case till Monday, Aaj News reported. 

Taufiq Asif, Counsel of Jamaat-e-Islami, today started his arguments.

When the counsel referred the bench to Article 248 of the constitution, the bench said the prime minister has not sought immunity under the article.

In his remarks, Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh said the case cannot built on mere assumptions and presumptions. He asked the counsel of Jamaat-e-Islami to present evidence in support of his allegations.

Makhdoom Ali Khan, the counsel of the Prime Minister and Naeem Bukhari, the counsel of PTI has already concluded their submissions before the court.

In last hearing, PM's counsel completed his arguments. In his arguments, he pleaded that Maryam Nawaz is not dependent on his client. He said the court will be informed about all the properties and assets. The court will also be informed as to how these assets were accumulated.

During the hearing, the top court pointed out that the time-frame in which the appointment of the PM can be challenged following the election through Article 225 is limited.

Justice Khosa said that once this time period expires, the court can be asked to review the appointment under Articles 184/3 and Article 199.
