Proceedings adjourned to today
Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq on Wednesday adjourned the proceedings of the House till Thursday (today) when members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) surrounded his rostrum, raised slogans against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and caused an uproar during Khawaja Saad Rafique's speech.
As soon as Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed ended his speech on Panamagate issue, PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi sought to take floor but the Speaker did not allow him and said now it was the turn of a treasury member to speak.
The Speaker gave the floor to Federal Minister for Railway Khawaja Saad Rafiq to respond to the Opposition Leader.
The PTI members stood up and shouted "no, no, no" against Speaker's ruling.
The PTI members and independent MNA Jamshed Dasti started making noise as soon as Minister for Railways Saad Rafique stood up to speak. The members gathered before the Speaker's dais, raised slogans against the Prime Minister and tore down copies of the agenda.
The Speaker repeatedly said he would certainly give floor to Qureshi after Khawaja Saad Rafiq's speech but the members continued to shout.
The Speaker suspended the proceedings for fifteen minutes. When the Speaker restarted the proceedings of the house after fifteen minutes and gave floor to Khawaja Saad Rafiq, the PTI members once again started raising slogans against the Prime Minister. Some treasury members also chanted slogans against Imran Khan.
Rafiq, who was addressing the House, was frequently interrupted. He said that PTI is not interested in politics and is only interested in wasting time.
He said the opposition party has hijacked the House which is unacceptable. Speaker National Assembly tried to calm down protesters but they did not pay heed to his instructions. Later, the Speaker adjourned the House till 4:00pm today (Thursday).
