Justice Saqib Nisar to replace Chief Justice Jamali on Dec 31
ISLAMABAD: Justice Mian Saqib Nisar is all set to become the 25th Chief Justice of Pakistan after Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali retires on December 30.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Wednesday, Justice Nisar will assume the roles and responsibilities of the Chief Justice of Pakistan on December 31.
Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, the senior-most judge of the apex court, was born on January 18, 1954 in Lahore and obtained an undergraduate degree in law from University of Punjab.
He has been Justice of the Supreme Court since February 18, 2010 and has served as judge of Lahore High Court prior to that. Before becoming a judge, he was an advocate of Supreme Court Bar Association and Lahore High Court Bar Association. He was elected Secretary General of Lahore High Court Bar Association in 1991.
On 29 March 1997, he was also appointed as Federal Law Secretary. As an advocate, he practiced in areas of civil, commercial, tax and constitutional laws.
According to the seniority list, he will be the 25th Chief Justice of Pakistan after Anwar Zaheer Jamali retires on 30 December 2016 and will remain on this post until 17 January 2019, his retirement date. -Brecoder
