HAMILTON, New Zealand: Pakistan's Sohail Khan took four wickets as reduce New Zealand to 266-8 in its first innings at tea on Saturday, the second day of the second test at Seddon Park.

Sohail, who claimed the important early wicket of captain Kane Williamson on Friday, followed up on day two as he dismissed Ross Taylor (37), Mitchell Santner (16) and Tim Southee (29) to prevent New Zealand from developing good partnerships. He had 4-99 from 25 overs by tea.

At tea, wicketkeeper B.J. Watling was 45 not out, having added 27 runs unbeaten for the ninth wicket with Matt Henry, who was on 15.

Sohail and Imran Khan (2-48) had given Pakistan a slight edge in a test in which much of the first day was lost to rain.

Zealand's position was stronger than it seemed thanks largely to opener Jeet Raval who made a chancy half century.
Raval was twice dropped at first slip by Sami Aslam off Mohammad Amir, when he was 4 in the first over of the innings and again at 40, before Mohammad Rizwan was moved into the position and held a chance off Imran Khan to end his innings at 55.

That matched his total in the first innings of the first test at Christchurch in which his scores of 55 and 36 not out helped New Zealand to a seven wicket win and a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Following the departure of Raval, Watling took over the anchor role and batted through the second session.
Pakistan took three wickets in each of Saturday's two sessions on a pitch which continued to offer some seam movement. That kept the tourists in a controlling position and the arrival of the second new ball an over before tea gave them hope of quickly wrapping up the New Zealand tail. -AFP
