Leonardo raises $45 million to support environmental awareness
WEB DESK: Leonardo DiCaprio, an Oscar winning actor raised $45 million by throwing a star-studded fundraiser at St Tropez, southern France, to help and support environmental awareness and research for climate change. For this, many A-list celebrities, included Bono, Chris Rock, Mariah Carey, Tobey Maguire, Jonah Hill, Naomi Campbell, Bradley Cooper and Edward Norton, attended the event.
According to foreign media reports, the 41-year-old actor auctioned off his Rolex, the diamond cufflinks he wore when he won his Academy Award earlier this year and a seven-night stay at his property in Palm Springs. The guests had the chance to bid for a week on the sets with filmmaker Martin Scorsese, a private game of Texas Hold ‘Em with Norton and Hill, an evening with Carey, a lunch with Margot Robbie as well as a Harley Davidson motorcycle and the Terminator Genisys skull from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Moreover, some amount of this auction ceremony will be given to victims and survivors of the recent attacks in Nice and the rest will go to the actor’s foundation, dedicated to environmental efforts.
Earlier this year, DiCaprio who is constant environmentalist praises and appreciates the Pope Francis for helping to try to fight climate change. He has been inspiring and revolutionary, to come out, be outspoken about the issue of climate change, and endorse the scientific community.
“We have 99 per cent of the scientific community now saying climate change exists and it’s caused by mankind. Anyone who does not believe in climate change doesn’t believe in science. So the fact that he has come out as the spiritual leader endorsing the scientific movement is unprecedented, and it was an incredible honour to meet him,†DiCaprio said.
