Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP), the two major opposition political parties, are yet to decide about their future line of action if the 12-member parliamentary panel fails to reach a consensus on the terms of reference (ToRs) to investigate Panama papers.

A senior PTI leader toldBusiness Recorder that Shah Mehmood Qureshi, representing PTI in the 12-member parliamentary committee, has plainly told the party chairman Imran Khan that nothing is going to come out of the panel.

The PTI chairman has reportedly directed Qureshi to get in touch with other political parties, especially the opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and formulate a joint action plan to be implemented after Ramazan in the event that the parliamentary committee ceases to function.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that all the political parties want an early solution to the problem, but the government is not ready to move forward, and this is the reason why there has been no progress despite passage of 14 days.

About future line of action, he said that the party is trying its level best to resolve the issue through parliament, adding if all the options are exhausted, "we will be left with no option but to take to the street".

"It will be premature to say anything about our future strategy, but at the end of the day, all the parties want a consensus ToRs," he added.

Senator Aitzaz Ahsan of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) who is a key member of 12-member parliamentary panel told reporters that the committee could not make any progress even at during its seventh meeting which shows that the government is trying to save Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

However, he said that we are still optimistic that the government would make a sincere effort to resolve the issue, as the opposition is fully cooperating, adding "The ball is in government's court now as we have given our ToRs".

He declined to comment on the future strategy of his party, saying, "We are optimistic and hopeful that the government would come up with a solution" adding, one thing is final "that the prime minister has to be investigated".
