MIRPUR: Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been declared successful in the by-election to Mirpur city LA-III AJK Legislative Assembly.

Chief Election Commissioner of Azad Jammu Kashmir Justice Munir Ahmed Chaudhry has announced the official results here on Monday.

Polling to the vacant seat was held in Mirpur city on Sunday.Sultan  secured 15589 votes against his nearest rival Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf of Pakistan People's Party (AJK) who bagged 12591 votes.

Other candidates in the run including independent candidate Ejaz Raza obtained 2858 votes, Abdul Qayyum Qamar, candidate of Muslim Conference got 561 votes, Nauman Akram of Jamaat e Islami 598 votes and Syed Nishaat Hussain Kazmi of Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party secured 274 votes.

Mirpur city LA-III constituency of AJK Legislative Assembly contains 68815 votes out of which 32973 votes were polled. 164 votes were rejected.

Thus the overall turn out remained 47.8 percent.

The CEC was flanked by Secretary AJK Election Commission Mian Naeem Ullah,District Returning Officer Chaudhry Muhammad Munir and Returning Officer Chaudhry Muhammad Sajjad.
