Court reserves judgment in high treason case

ISLAMABAD: The Special Court established to try General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, on Thursday reserved judgment in the high treason case regarding the appearance of former dictator.

The registrar Special Court Abdul Ghani Soomro would announce the judgment later today at 3 pm in the court room of Federal Shariat Court.

The three-judge Special Court headed by Justice Faisal Arab resumed hearing of the historic treason trial against the former dictator; however, despite the court's clear cut orders for his appearance, Musharraf did not appear before the court.

The ninth hearing of the Special Court, conducted in the National Library here, started sans Musharraf and following the previous trend the Musharraf's lawyers' team represented him.

Musharraf's lawyers contended that as their client was still admitted in the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), so it would not be possible for him to come in the court.

Ibrahim Satti, counsel for Musharraf requested for the adjournment of the case for one week as their application was pending before the Supreme Court.

Special Public Prosecutor, Akram Sheikh pleaded that Pervez Musharraf was continuously violating the court's orders which tantamount to contempt of the court. He requested the court to issue contempt of court orders against Musharraf.

The judgment regarding the appearance of Musharraf before the court would be announced later today at 3 pm.
