University to build small dam for electricity and water needs

KARACHI: Baqai Foundation under its ever expanding
Baqai Medical University project also known as "Shahar e Baqa" is in
process to build a small dam so as to meet its electricity and potable
water needs.

The Board of Governor of Baqai Foundation in its meeting on
Monday, decided that the lake developed on university premises to
store rain water, some four years ago, would be turned into a dam.

The meeting chaired by its Managing Trustee and Chairman, Prof.
Fariduddin Baqai and founder of Baqai Foundation, Dr. Zahida Baqai
extensively reviewed pace of development of schemes presently underway at Shahar e Baqa.

They alongwith board of governors also discussed details of
expenditure for projects scheduled to be completed in 2014 as well as
those initiated in the same year.

The BoG members were of consensus opinion that the lake must not
only be turned soon into a dam but Wardat dam located some 12
kilometers from the BMU ought to be reactivated to help power and
water needs of communities living in the area.

It was agreed that water for building purpose of Pharmacy University on a 167 acres of land, including raise of a building with a covered area of 16800 square feet could not be restricted to boring
as it was extremely expensive.

The meeting appreciated the fact that a boundary wall around
2000 acres land has been completed.

The Baqai Foundation's BoG approved inclusion of Iftikhar udin
Siddiqui as the new member.

Siddiqui said "Shahar e Baqa" a unique project with equal
benefit for patients, medical community, students, researchers has to
be developed on most modern lines.

The meeting was also addressed by Prof. Peter Bailley, Dr. Qamar
Khan Mohammad Qamaruddin, S.M.Ahsan Naqvi and others
