Couple set on fire by local tribunal in Khanewal

KHANEWAL: A couple was set ablaze for not agreeing with the local tribunal's ruling regarding their relationship. Aaj News reported.

Both victims have suffered severe burns and have been dispatched to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Farhat, a mother of three children, living in the remote village of Kabir Wala, was involved in a non-marital relationship with a man named Yousuf. According to reports, Farhat was living with Yousuf at his house instead of  her husband who had denied her a divorce.

About two months ago, the local tribunal ruled that the woman, Farhat, will resume living with her husband at his house, but Farhat refused to abide by the tribunals ruling.

According to her, a few villagers barged into her home and sprayed her and Yusuf  in petrol and set fire to them.

The victims have accused the tribunal of attempting to murder them.

According to doctors at Khanewal DHQ, 70% of Farhat's body has been severely burnt while the man Yusuf has 60% of his body burnt.

The police have not yet been able to give a statement regarding the incident. However, an inquiry into the matter has been initiated.
