Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani distributed certificates to various students, on his visit to the annual convocation of Virtual University (VU)  at Expo Center in Johar Town, Lahore. He was invited as the chief guest of the event.

During the proceedings of the event, a brawl occurred, when SP Saddar, Athar Waheed arrived at the venue with his fellow policemen, armed. Prime Minister's personal security personnel  stopped Athar Waheed and tried to stop him from going inside the venue with any kind of weapon.

To this, SP Athar argued and proclaimed that this area was under his jurisdiction given to him by the Government of Punjab and it is his duty to provide protection to citizens which requires him to be armed with a weapon at all times.

Harsh words and foul language was exchanged between the two authorities.

Later, SP Athar ordered his men to take the Prime Minister's security men under arrest telling his men to register a FIR if they do not submit an apology.

SP Saddar Waheed Athar is affiliated with Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and openly supports the party's leadership.  He has been instated at various posts in Punjab police during the PML-N government.

Speculations are that this act of confrontation on PM's security matters is actually a mere symbol of Punjab Government's feelings towards Prime Minister Gilani and his premiership.
