The United States of America has said that intense negotiations are underway with Pakistan to persuade them to open the routes leading to Afghanistan from their country, in order for NATO to resume its the supply of aid for their troops in Afghanistan.

A U.S. official says discussions are scheduled to resume Monday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

Pakistani Cabinet members and senior military officials are expected to meet Tuesday to discuss whether to allow the supplies to resume.

Pakistan has closed its borders to the US and NATO for almost six months now.

Pakistan blocked the NATO supply route to stage a protest against the US airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistan Army soldiers in at Salala check-post.

Pakistan had asked US to agree to two key conditions one of them was a formal apology regarding the airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers and the other, to stop carrying out drone strikes in Pakistan.

The U.S. has so far refused to accept Pakistani demands.
