Bannu jailbreak: Strict security arrangements ordered for Adiala Jail

RAWALPINDI: Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Rawalpindi Region Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Zubair has issued special instructions to make foolproof security arrangements at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi.

Chairing a meeting held here to review security arrangements at the Adiala Jail he said that in addition to regular force deployment, Elite force fully equipped with latest weapons be deployed. The Rangers should also be given the task in this connection so that all possible precautionary measures could be taken to protect the jail.

The meeting was attended among others by City Police Officer Rawalpindi, Azhar Hameed Khokhar, Senior Superintendent Police, (SSP) Operations Dr. Akhtar Abbas, SSP Special Branch Zarat Kiani, DIG Prisoners Shoukat Farooz and Superintendent Adiala Jail Malik Mushtaq.

Additional IG Police directed the CPO Rawalpindi to ensure foolproof security arrangements for Adiala Jail and maximum available force with trained personnel of Elite Force and Rangers should be deployed to make the best security arrangements.

He also directed for installation of latest and heavy weapons including light machine guns (LMG) at the hills, present in the jail surrounding.

RPO ordered for checking and investigation of mobile shops present outside the prisons and in adjacent localities and action in accordance with the law should be taken against unlicensed shops.

He said, the personnel of special branch be deputed to strictly monitor all the entry and exit points of the Adiala Jail and immediate action be taken against suspicious elements.

AIGP, Rawalpindi Region giving direction to DIG Prisons said that all possible steps would be taken by law enforcement agencies to make security arrangements foolproof outside Adiala Jail while the inner security arrangements are responsibility of the prisons department so solid steps should be taken in this regard. The use of mobile phone inside Adiala Jail be checked properly and those violating the rules must be dealt with iron hands.

There should be proper lighting facility in the jail. Enhanced security arrangements should be made for the jail inmates especially confined under terrorism cases or for other heinous crimes so that no untoward incident like Bannu could be repeated.
