Gilani discusses bilateral ties with Indonesian President
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Monday assured Pakistanthat it will discuss with all the members of the ASEAN to give Full Dialogue Partner status to Pakistan.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on the sidelines of the second Nuclear Security Summit here, both the leaders discussed various options to further promote and enhance bilateral relations in all fields.
Prime Minister Gilani informed the Indonesian President, "We recognize and fully appreciate that the consensus onPakistan's membership to ARF during the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting emerged due toIndonesia's active support to our candidature." He said ASEAN achieved greater success under the leadership ofIndonesialast year.
Gilani also thanked Indonesia for extending support forPakistan's request for Full Dialogue Partnership with ASEAN to further develop the collaboration with ASEAN in a more effective manner.
They discussed bilateral relations and both the countries agreed to further enhance and promote trade, economic and people to people ties.
PakistanandIndonesiaenjoy historical, cultural and religious ties and the meeting will enhance these relations.
Prime Minister said, "We are keen to strengthen our relations in all spheres."
He said the phenomenal economic development achieved byIndonesiaunder the leadership of President Susilo Bambang is highly impressive.
He said the two countries have recently singed the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and assured to Indonesian President that the volume of bilateral trade, would be increased substantially from the present dollars one billions.
Gilani saidPakistanandIndonesiashould more forward from PTA to Free Trade Agreement to further increase trade ties.
Referring to the visit of President Susilo Bambang toPakistanin 2005, the Prime Minister Gilani said it gave a new impetus to the bilateral relations.
Gilani saidPakistanandIndonesiahave shared perceptions on matters of regional and international issues and they have the desire to further strengthen these bilateral relations is also mutual.
The Prime Minister while referring to the signing of agreement in 2010 on "Abolition of visa on diplomatic and official passports" during the former Foreign Minister's visit, said it will help increase contacts between officials and diplomats of both the countries.
He said the defence agreement signed between the two countries in 2010, will also help increase bilateral defence cooperation.
The Prime Minister saidPakistan's business community has lately shown interest to invest in joint ventures particularly in sugar plants, as part of the Indonesian government's decision to restructure sugar industry.
Gilani saidPakistancan provide either complete sugar plants on turn-key basis or jointly work on rehabilitation of existing units.
He saidPakistanhas also provided numerous investment opportunities in a number of sectors such as energy, construction, textile, telecom, finance, agriculture and halal food industry andPakistanwill welcome Indonesian investments inPakistan.
Both the leaders extended invitation to each other for bilateral visits.
