Extortionism to be controlled within 5 days: Rehman Malik
Minister for Interior Rehman A Malik said the government was taking strict action against the extortionists (Bhatta Khori) in Karachi claiming that the issue would be resolved within five day.
"I assure you that the problem of extortionism in Karachi would be resolved within 4-5 days and we have dispatched 400 policemen and 100 vehicles to Karachi specially in Liari area to achieve the task positively", Rehman Malik said while talking to media men here on Friday.
He said during the last 15 days three policemen have been killed during operation against the extortionists. He said all criminals would be arrested irrespective of their affiliation with any political party including Aman Party and Pakistan Peoples Party.
The Minister said the biggest challenge for the government was target killing in Karachi which have been controlled to a great extent and now the government was committed to control `Bhatta Khori' as well.
He said he called Inspector General of Sindh today and directed him to arrest all the criminals involved in extortions and other street crimes. He said a total of 15 complaints were received of threat calls to the local businessmen and six such callers have been arrested so far.
Replying to a question regarding Mehran Bank Scandal, the minister said he did not allege anybody without proof. On the occasion, the minister also showed a document containing proof of involvement of Mian Nawaz Sharif in the case.
To another question, Rehman Malik said President Asif Ali Zardari and Altaf Hussain were like brothers and "hopefully Mutahida Qaumi Movement would sit in the joint session on Saturday."
