Rise in sea level not alarming for Karachi: DG Met
Director General Metrological department Arif Mehmood on Thursday said that country’s costal areas including Karachi are not at high risk from sea level rise. Talking to PTV, he dispelled the impression that this situation is alarming for Karachi instead of that he said several mega cities of other South Asian countries such as Dhaka in Bangladesh; and Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai in India are at high risk of sea-level rise.
He said due to changing world climate there are many areas around the world which are getting affected, particularly in the South Asia, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan come in that list. He said that salinity increase due to sea-level rise is becoming a major climate episode in some parts of the Bangladesh.
