Karachi: What should I be worried about?

Every day waking up in the morning, my first thoughts aren’t as peaceful and calming as they should be; instead I start by enlisting things that I should be worried about.

For example if I want to take a shower, would there be enough water for that? Or on my way to office will I be mugged today? Would it be the police or the conventional and often friendly mobile snatchers? Which traffic signal is it going to happen on? I’m pretty sure the one on the other side of the bridge. The bridge that I cross 6 out of 7 days; which has two-way traffic with no vehicle restrictions and a quite visible yet ignored ‘crack’ weakening it inch-by-inch everyday.

Somehow I get through my -fairly intimidating- daily morning routine and reach my office, a place where I used to feel safe, until I logged on to YouTube.

A week ago I saw CCTV Footage of a target killing incident involving a telecom franchise outlet in Karachi, where two gunmen walk in; open fire at anyone and everyone inside; hunt out the ones who hid under tables and behind shelves, shoot them too; set fire to the place and just, walk out.

Seeing how casually they executed the whole operation, took me back to a scene from a movie called “The Shawshank Redemption” where Brooks the librarian says, “Easy, Peasy, Japa-Neesy”

It captioned the moment accurately.

The point i'm trying to make is, that if you believe in rationalization and also live in Pakistan, eventually you will have to quit one of those things.
