Witnesses retract their statements against Moonis, court told

A banking court on Wednesday was told that all witnesses in case against Moonis Elahi involved in the National Insurance Corporation (NICL) scam had retracted from their statements wherein they declared him guilty.

Moonis's counsel Rai Bashir Ahmad said this before Special Judge Banking Offence Malik Abdul Rasheed who was hearing the case against Moonis.

The counsel told the court that eight witnesses in case against Moonis Elahi had retracted from their statements before Judicial Magistrate Irfan Basra saying that it was signed by them under pressure. The witnesses said Moonis was innocent, the counsel added.

The counsel pleaded the court to provide copies of the challan and witnesses statements.

The court adjourning the matter till May 31 directed to provide copies to the petitioner's counsel.

The court was hearing the case against Moonis Elahi for receiving Rs 320 million from NICL scam through bogus accounts.
