Over 100 shops were gutted when a major fire broke out in Empress Market early hours on Sunday.

However, no loss of life was reported in the incident.

A fire broke out in Empress Market at around 3:30 am that affected 25 percent of the market and the extent of loss would stand at 3.5 crore.

Over a dozen fire tenders were immediately pressed into service to douse the blaze. The fire was controlled, after burning around 150 shops of different household items.
