New Zealand finish on 221/8

New Zealand ended on 221/8 in the first innings of their ICC World Cup quarter-final against South Africa in Mirpur on Friday.

The star batsmen for the Black Caps were Jesse Ryder with 83 and Ross Taylor with 43, who came to the crease with New Zealand struggling on 16/2.

Morne Morkel shone with the ball for the Proteas, picking up 3/46, hitting the stumps with all of his dismissals.

Spinner Imran Tahir and speedster Dale Steyn also chipped in with handy bowling figures, picking up 2/32 and 2/42 respectively.

It will be up to Graeme Smith and the rest of the South African batsmen to ensure the Proteas make it home on a pitch that has been described as skiddy and flattish. Rain has been predicted for later in the evening, which may well complicate matters for South Africa.
