US won't mediate between Pakistan and India over Kashmir dispute‎
The American and Pakistani friends have privately talked about the subject of Islamabad having nuclear technology cooperation with the United States, a top American official said Thursday as the two sides held strategic talks on wide-ranging issues in Washington.“We are well aware of Pakistani strategic goal and desire. It’s one of the many things we have talked about frankly in private with our friends in Pakistan,†U.S.  Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke said.
He was replying to a question in a roundtable with Pakistani journalists when asked about progress towards discussing a possible nuclear cooperation deal between the United States and Pakistan, which Islamabad considers as a strategic goal.
On the question of Chinese-Pakistan nuclear cooperation, Holbrooke stated:
“We have asked for more information on the Chinese-Pakistan arrangement to see how they fit in with international regimes.â€
The Obama Administration’s special envoy for the region acknowledged in response to a question that Pakistan-India tensions affect the Afghan situation, where the U.S has had a high-stakes military and diplomatic engagement since September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York’s twin towers and Pentagon.
Washington, he said in reply to a question on Kashmir, is supportive of Pakistan and India resolving their tensions themselves but remarked it would not play the mediation role.
