US President George W. Bush will announce on Wednesday that Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is resigning amid deep anger at the US war in Iraq, a White House official said.
Asked whether Bush would announce at a post-election press conference that the embattled Pentagon chief was leaving, the official, who requested anonymity, replied "yes."
