India, China to set up mechanism for interactions

India, China to set up mechanism for interactionsIndia and China are expected to establish a high-level institutionalised mechanism for interactions, including establishment of a hotline, during the visit of President Hu Jintao here from November 20.
The new initiative is expected to entail regular structured exchanges including visits at high level, said Press Trust of India quoting official sources here.
Under the mechanism, the two sides are also likely to establish a hotline between their foreign ministries, possibly at Foreign Minister-level, to enable easier communication for discussing various issues, they said.
The two sides are also expected to sign 12 pacts, including a Bilateral Investment Protection Agreement (BIPA), to boost their trade and commerce during the four-day visit.
An accord for establishing arrangement for regional trade is also likely to be inked during the visit. Other agreements to be signed include one on student exchanges and another on holding festivals on a reciprocal basis, they added.
Immense significance is being attached to the visit of Hu who will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and meet President A P J Abdul Kalam and other leaders.
The two sides will review progress in their boundary talks amid hopes that momentum would be given to efforts to find an amicable solution to the vexed issue, the sources said.
Chinese President Hu Jintao will travel to Mumbai where he will address Indian business leaders. The visiting dignitary will also visit Agra to see Taj Mahal.
