McConaughey finds 'Fool's Gold' at US film box office

McConaughey finds 'Fool's Gold' at US film box officeTreasure-hunter comedy 'Fool's Gold' took first place in its opening weekend at the North American box office, collecting 21.6 million dollars, final figures showed on Monday.
Starring Hollywood heartthrob Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson as a divorced couple searching for Caribbean treasure, "Fool's Gold" dethroned teen popstar flick "Hannah Montana," box office tracker Exhibitor Relations said.
US funnyman Martin Lawrence's romp "Welcome Home Roscoe Jeni," about a talk show host's reunion with his lovable but crazy family, opened in second place with 16.2 million dollars.
"Hannah Montana" fell to third place with 10.3 million dollars -- respectable, given its still-limited release in only 687 theaters, compared to more than 3,000 for "Fool's Gold."
"The Eye," a remake of the Pang brothers' Hong Kong thriller starring Jessica Alba, raked in an estimated 6.5 million dollars for fourth place.
The Oscar-nominated comedic drama "Juno," about a pregnant teen, moved up one spot to fifth place with 5.6 million dollars, bringing the film's 10-week total to 117.5 million dollars, Exhibitor Relations said.
Rounding out the top 10 were "27 Dresses" (5.4 million dollars); "The Bucket List" (5.2 million); "Rambo" (4.5 million); "Meet the Spartans" (4.1 million); and "There will be Blood" (4 million).
Exhibitor Relations put the total take for the weekend's top 12 films at 89.7, down from the 91.8 million for the same weekend last year.
