In a significant development salary and benefits of judges of the superior courts have been increased, with the pay and perks of Supreme Court justices brought on par with those of judges of the Federal Constitutional Court.
The new remuneration package for Supreme Court justices will take effect from December 10, 2025, while the amended pay package for High Court judges will take effect from July 1, 2026.
Under the new package, the Chief Justice of Pakistan will receive a monthly basic salary of Rs1.55 million, while the basic monthly salary of other Supreme Court judges has been increased to Rs1.5 million.
The basic salary of Supreme Court judges has been raised by around Rs400,000 per month.
Their judicial allowance has also been substantially increased from Rs1.161 million to Rs1.5 million per month, representing an increase of around Rs339,000.
The pension package for Supreme Court judges has also been revised.
The age limit under a pension-related provision has been increased from 70 to 75 years.
Supreme Court judges will also receive a monthly medical allowance of Rs 150,000 under the revised package.
The salaries of High Court judges have also been increased.
The monthly basic salary of a High Court chief justice has been fixed at Rs1.254 million, while other High Court judges will receive a basic monthly salary of Rs1.205 million.
The basic salary of High Court judges has been increased by Rs110,000 per month, from Rs1.095 million to Rs1.205 million.
The revised salaries for High Court judges will take effect from July 1, 2026.
The package also introduces a new facility for judges who have served as chief justice for more than two years.
Such judges will be allowed to purchase their official vehicle at a concessional price upon retirement or elevation to a higher court.
Retired judges will also be eligible to receive fees for serving as arbitrators in matters involving the federal government.
