A police constable was martyred after unidentified gunmen opened fire on him in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Thursday, police said.

The victim was identified as Constable Noor Alam Khan, who was serving in the Special Branch.

According to police, the attack took place near Masoomabad on the Bannu-Miranshah Road within the limits of the Cantonment Police Station.

The assailants targeted the constable while he was travelling from his home to report for duty before fleeing the scene.

Police rushed to the area, cordoned off the crime scene and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

Authorities said an investigation had been initiated from multiple angles to determine the motive behind the attack.
