Fresh forensic findings in the death of businessman Mir Raza Ali Khan have raised new questions as investigators obtained key CCTV footage and continued to examine both murder and suicide as possible causes of death.

According to the preliminary post-mortem report, Mir Raza’s body was between 24 and 36 hours old at the time of examination. Medical sources said the body was bloated and the face had suffered extensive damage.

Preliminary post-mortem findings

Sources from the medico-legal office (MLO) said the gunshot entered from the back and exited through the front. The preliminary report noted that the entry wound appeared larger than the exit wound, while further forensic examination is expected to determine the exact trajectory and circumstances of the shooting.

The report also revealed that the fingers of the victim’s left hand were tightly clenched, with blades of grass found inside the closed fist.

Suspicious marks were also observed on the victim’s right hand, while another injury was visible beneath the chin.

Medical sources added that the exact cause of the severe facial damage could only be determined after a more detailed examination of the head.

CCTV footage obtained

Investigators have also secured CCTV footage recorded at around 8am on July 29, which is expected to help reconstruct the victim’s movements before his body was recovered.

Police are reviewing the footage alongside other digital and forensic evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Probe widened

The latest developments come as Karachi Police continue to expand the investigation.

Earlier, investigators compiled a list of individuals who allegedly owed Mir Raza money.

According to police, eight people, including two brothers accused of owing millions of rupees, are being questioned over financial dealings with the victim.

Police have also questioned five of Mir Raza’s friends and business associates and detained 18 people during raids in several areas, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Officials said six detainees are linked to the guest house where the victim is believed to have stayed, while four others were seen near the crime scene.

Investigators have obtained the call detail records (CDR) of the last 15 contacts made from the victim’s phone and sought assistance from a federal intelligence agency to trace the locations of those individuals.

Geofencing of the crime scene has also been initiated, while additional CCTV footage from the area around a nearby mosque is being analysed.

Father disputes findings

Meanwhile, Mir Raza’s father, Hussain Raza, has rejected the preliminary medical findings, insisting that his son was murdered and alleging attempts to portray the case as suicide.

He claimed his son’s face, body and fingerprints had been deliberately burned and questioned why the preliminary report referred only to the gunshot wound without mentioning alleged signs of physical torture.

The father also said Mir Raza went missing on July 28 and his body was recovered a day later, raising questions about his whereabouts during that period.

He has appealed to senior authorities to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation.

Police have not concluded their investigation, saying all evidence, including forensic findings, CCTV footage and witness statements, is still being examined.
